Age Requirement

You can shop for a surgeon as far as your insurance will allow, and 67 is
not too old. I know my Bariatric Team does not put an age limitation on
their patients. They KNOW that quality and longevity odds will be
increased with surgery, especially when co-morbidities are involved. They
know that recovery may be more difficult for older folks, but it's still a
matter of attitude and willingness to do whatever it takes to be compliant

67 is still YOUNG these days. Check around for a surgeon that is
interested in the quality of your life rather of using your age as a
criteria.

I am 74. I had rny January, 2010 in Boise. Medicare paid, contact
medicare for further info and recommendation in your area re. doctors.

My Doctor will do surgeries on any age, he evaluates their over all health
and if they are healthy enough for surgery, age does not matter. He is in
Coos Bay OR

Kaiser does not do surgery on patients over 60. My sister is over 60 and
was referred to Mercy Scripps Hosptial in San Diego, California. She had
such a wonderful doctor and experience in the hospital that I requested the
same doctor, I'm willing to drive for an 1 1/2 to get a get surgeon. I
would ask for a referral and see what they can offer you. Good Luck!

I was 64 when I had my RNY. My insurance company (Blue Cross of
California) didn't hesitate to approve the surgery as soon as I'd jumped
through their hoops. I am on Medicare now, and I think I have seen several
postings from Medicare recipients that they've gotten approvals too. I
believe it has something to do with exhibiting one or more co-morbidities
like sleep apnea, high blood pressure, or the like.

If you want the surgery bad enough, "Never Give Up!" Follow your
dream. I had the lapband surgery 8/4/08 right before I was 65 in
September. I am going back for my 3 year check-up next week. I had the
surgery done through Medicare. Keep looking for someone who will do the
surgery. I have lost 100 lbs. I am very happy!

Hi Kasey, I'm 64 and will have my surgery 10/5. I live in MI and my
daughter had WLS last year and I wanted to use her surgeon, but their age
cut off was 60. I actually found a surgeon closer to home who has operated
on folks in their 70's. My insurance is BCBS of MI and I got approved
right away. I agree with one of the posters who said to check with
Medicare....I've heard they approve the surgery without too much hassle.
Hope all works out for you....I don't think we are too old for most
anything.
