Question:
I've got a date! ..... but is this normal?

The doctor's office called yesterday and I'm scheduled for 3/27/06 in the morning. They had wanted to do it on the 15th but there would be no time for me to prepare. I'm so excited, but now I'm really nervous and a little scared is this normal?    — HAILEY (posted on March 8, 2006)

It's absolutely normal to be scared. I had a 14 month wait period for my surgery (due to insurance waits) and it wasn't until I had received my date that I actually started to feel butterflies. And I really started to feel a few weeks before the actual surgery. But if you've waited this long for it to begin with, then concentrate on the outcome and not so much what you're giving up to get there. If you have any questions, feel free to email me. But we've all been there! Good luck!

It is more normal than not! I actually had a hard time breathing before surgery. Doctor said it was anxiety - I've never experienced anxiety before in my life. LOL. All that went away at surgery (1 week ago). Good luck. See you on the losing side.

What is NORMAL??!! I am sure what you are feeling is typical, I have 1 week before I start my pre-op diet and 4/14 is my surgery date - haven't started having the butterflys yet but I am ready for this surgery.

I think if you weren't nervous THAT would be cause for concern. You just received the call that your life, as you know it, is about to change forever. Pretty scary if you ask me! I was so exciting to have surgery. I ended up having a death in my family and a million other things happen and really didn't get to "feel the feelings" that I was having until the night before surgery. Good grief, it was nothing short of a panic attack. I had surgery on 02-06-06 and already feel 100% better than I did pre-op. I hope you have a good friend or support system that you can talk to...but honestly, the support from this group is here 24/7 and has helped me through my fears, my excitement, my pity parties...all of it. Just reach out your hand and we will grab it! Tammy

It is so normal....Ihad an insurace fight for a little over 2 years before I was approved. It gave me plenty of time to make sure this was right for me. In the end though, that night before I was really ill to my stomach and scared of leaving my children and husband. I just prayed and read my bible and that is what got me thru it all. One thing I can say is do not give up. For me it was well worth it. To see my children smile because I can walk in the mall with them w/out having to sit down is the best thing I've gotten out of this. I did do this for me, but I did it more for my children.
