Question:
Any unsuccessful RNY's out there ?

I had an RNY 18 months ago. Lost 20 the 1st two weeks and NOTHING since then. My surgeon wants to taalk to me about a revision. So much for the "gold standard" What would a revision to a RNY be ?    — gerryowen58 (posted on July 24, 2009)

I had RNY 4.5 years ago and only lost 60 lbs and NOTHING more. I do blame myself a lot, though, because I was able to eat way more than normal. And today, I can eat just as much as before surgery. I also learned that my surgeon was making larger pouches for her patience. I don't know if that affected by outcome, but it may have. I also know that some who went to her had success and so that's why I put some of the blame on me. I didn't dump on ANYTHING. My scenario was almost too perfect, which in its own way was not so "perfect" after all. Now I'm afraid of revision because I'm afraid trying for the second time may really mess up my insides. I'd be interested in hearing some good RNY revision stories. Best wishes to you!

I had my surgery 5 years ago and I lost 100lbs. I was doing all things as told. Just 2 years ago I notice I was always hungry. It seems like I could never be satisfied. I would eat my potioned meal but before I left the table I was eating more food. I told this to the doctor during my follow up visits because I had gained 30 lbs and didn't even realized it. My backside was looking bigger and my pants were getting tight. I reported this and found out that my stoma had stretched and the food was not stopping, It was going thru me making me want more and more. Well after tests they saw that I have a problem. This is common they told me. They told me I have to have a Stomaphyx. This is to help close the opening from my pouch. I am waiting for approval from the insurance and I am getting the help I need. Good luck on the procedure I hope help comes through for you quickly.

Check the Revision forum here on Obesity Help. You will see the vast majority of failures are RNY and lap band surgery. In my opinion the ONLY surgery I would revise to after RNY would be Duodenal Switch. It has great long term statistics. Do your research on this, I don't think you'll regret it!
