Question:
getting through christmas

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get through christmas on a liquid diet when everyone around you is enjoying a nice christmas dinner. I know I have to do it but any suggestions on how to do it would be helpful.    — cuppaloopy (posted on December 9, 2009)

When is surgery? What are you having done? Are you drinking protein drinks, soups or what? Sorry to ask so many questions..but I/we don't really know at what point you are. There are many great tasting protein drinks out there..you do not have to make it a punishment..make them taste really good with a wide variety of flavors to add to your drink. I havre trbl with solid foods so I do drink 99% of my protein.

I know that can be really hard. I had my surgery two years ago, but two days after Thanksgiving! I did a lot of online research for cook books that had pre and post op diets. Some had special holiday recipes like ones to taste like pumpkin pie! I know its not the same but anything that makes you feel like your getting a "treat" is helpful! Best of Luck to you

Flavored coffees (caf and de-caf) w/ 1 cup skim milk = latte. It's a protein and cuts some of the deprivation of not having caloric treats. And taking a few more walks helps relieve stress - mall walking on Saturday or Sunday morning when the weather is bad - you can window shop without spending! Good luck.

Take your liquid protein drink, pour it into an elegant goblet and enjoy your meal along with everyone else! Happy Holidays!

My rny was Nov. 23. I was on a liquid diet 8 days before surgery and 9 days after. Thanksgiving was strange. I had just gotten home from the hospital and even though our family all gets together, My husband and I stayed home. I was in rough shape and in no mood to eat. At that time, I wasnt sure I ever wanted to eat again.(The family brought my husband plates of food which lasted him several days, so I didnt have to worry about that). It took almost 2 weeks for me to get my first hunger pang. I have a family Christmas party coming up and I will not have a problem bringing my own "dinner" I will be on soft cooked foods by then which includes meats,veg.fruit. No nuts or popcorn. Im still healing so I KNOW what to eat and not to eat. Suzette

I got through the holiday during my liquid diet AFTER surgery by just adjusting my attitude about what food is and what it means to me. Food is fuel. I was getting pleasure from other things, like fitting into smaller, cuter clothes, being able to mark certain simple accomplishments, like having my youngest son able to put his arms all the way around me for the first time, and being able to take a bath for the first time in 3 years and able to support my weight enough to get out of the tub! One day at a time.
