When I had surgery, I weighed 272 lbs and had a BMI just over 40, so I would be considered a light weight. Yes, I lost half of my hair, but I had tons to start with, so it was not noticable at all. I do not think that starting weight has much to do with hair loss.

I started out ar 274 and I don't think it has anything to do with weight, I think it is the stress on your body and lack of nutrients, I am about 3 1/2 months out and just started losing my hair, I hope it stops soon but it will be worth it if I can get the weight off.

I started out at 280. Currently I am down 77 pounds to 203 and am 3 1/2 months post op. I just started losing my hair last week. It's not a good feeling but it's worth it in the long run!

My starting weight was 264 and I lost AT LEAST half of my hair between months 2 and 8. It was traumatic, but fortunately I had always had very thick and abundant hair. I don't think starting weight has anything to do with the hair loss issue. Shelley

My starting weight was 208, I may be a super light weight LOL. However, after having 2 C sec. I lost hair about 2 weeks after giving birth and it lasted about 2-3 weeks. When I had WLS in Dec.2001, I have lost none so far, I will keep my fingers crossed, for me it had to do w/the anasthesia not lack of protein. I also don't think weight has anything to do w/ hairloss. PS I call others my heavier friends. And so far they have all been sweet to me. I had a lot more co-morbids them some of my "heavier" friends.

With a starting weight of 218, I would definitely be considered a lightweight. I can tell you that starting at a lower weight did NOT help me in the hair loss department. I started losing hair around 2.5 months post op and it started growing back right about 6 months post op. For a while there I was sure that I was going to be the skinniest bald woman on my block! I'm now 9 months post op and have lots of short new hairs growing in very nicely. Best of luck to you!
