Question:
Can someone help me get some sample letters from PCP's to insurance?

I was hoping I could see some samples. I am 25 and only have two comorbs (GERD and hypertension) well, and Adema too, but I weigh 340 and have a BMI of 56... i am told I need a PCP to write a letter of medical necessity. My PCP is not for or against the surgery and said he would help me any way he could to make me happy. Can you give me some sample letters that are really good that I could write with my medical stuff and have him sign? Do PCP's do that? <P> Email me anyone who can help @ [email protected] THANK YOU SO MUCH! :)    — mylament (posted on June 19, 2002)

Dear Raquel, I would have your PCP write to your insurance company on his Hospital/Clinic letterhead addressing why this is medically necessary. My doctor pointed out the rising costs of medicines and eventually the cost for wheelchair, additional surgeries, inability to walk due to knee problems etc. Sometimes the suggestion of money saved down the road is the way to go. (I went from 13 pills a day from diabetes, thyroid, joint problems, high blood pressure...down to one pill a day for thyroid.) I hope this will help you out on your journey! Hang in there. Write if I can help you out further. Best wishes
