Does anyone know if you need a referral from your pcp in Wisconsin to see a surgeon for wls if you have medicare medicaid coverage.    — Nancy S. (posted on March 12, 2003)

hi well i am not from your state but i know here in Virginia I have medicare/and medicaid my surgery is 3/31/03 and i had to get a referal from my pcp but if your BMI is over 40 or 100 pounds over weight of you have problems because of your weight you are automatically covered if you surgery is MEDICALY NESS. mine is so they did not even had to send a letter for insurance approval medicare/and medicaid covers all but it may be different in your state i hope this helped you some thinking that medicare/and medicaid are goverment provided it would be the same I hope this helped you some GOOD LUCK!!!

Do you need referrals for any other specialists? If not, then most likely you don't in this case either. The best is to look in your insurance booklet or call them. I live in WI but have insurance through my employer so I can't give you anything more specific.
