Question:
How long does it take to hear from Aetna once they've rec'd my request?
I've called them a couple of times already, and they tell me it can take up to 30 days. Anyone had recent info from Aetna? — Sheryl Y. (posted on May 12, 2003)

I don't know the answer to your question, but I wanted to say good luck. I
also have Aetna and have yet to get an answer. They "don't show
anything in the system yet" for me. My paperwork was sent in 4/29.

My information was sent on 04-25-03 and I received an approval letter in
the mail today! I never called once. I promised myself I would at least
give them 2 weeks. Good Luck!

I've heard that AETNA does have to do it within 30days, so that is a good
thing. I know its frustrating to wait, but just have to be patient. It took
3 weeks for me to get approval last year. I've heard less from others. Call
every few days to check on it. Goodluck to you!

Sign up Aetna's website www.Aetna.com and you will get update's, you can
see your EOB and check the status of claims. It probably will not say
anything about your approval status but it will help once you get
approved.
You will see what you are responsible probably b/f your surgeon or hospital
gets the check. Take care and Good luck.

Aetna HMO is my secondary insurance and it only took 1 day.
My primary is BCBS of MN (EPO) and they only took 1 day.

THEY DO HAVE 30 DAYS TO RESPOND TO THE INITIAL REQ OR TO AN APPEAL. MY
SURGEON PUT IN THE INITIAL REQ END OF NOV 02 & I WAS DENIED, THEN
STARTED THE APPEAL PROCESS. I WAS FINALLY APPROVED AFTER THE 2ND APPEAL ON
4-17-03. THEY HAVE CERTAIN REQUIREMENTS & YOU HAVE TO PROVE TO THEM
THAT YOU MEET THEM. KEEP AT THEM, BE PERSISTANT, JUST DONT LET YOUR
FRUSTRATION RULE & GET NASTY WITH THEM. IT WILL BE EASIER TO GET
SOMETHING FROM THEM IF YOU DONT TICK THEM OFF. PERSISTANTS PAYS OFF!!
