Question:
2yrs post-op can it be revised?

2yrs post-op open rny lost 60lb first 6mos now 300lb from orginal 350 would like to have surgery over again with different docotor,can this be done ?. insurance was not a problem the first time will it be the 2nd .the stomach was cut and a smaller pouch was formed can anyone please offer some advice or insight as to what I'm in for.    — Kim G (posted on June 19, 2003)

Kim, it can be revised. Find a better surgeon. Really research him and his patients. You will probably find them here! :~) Good luck! Don't give up hope!! My surgeon's patient advocate had her surgery revised (Lap RNY) because she had so much weight to lose that more intestine needed to be bypassed. Your pouch may be the right size, just not enough intestine bypassed. Research it, and you will feel less stressed! Good Luck!

You can have your surgery revised. You may want to consider having a revision to a DS (duodenal switch). I don't know if your pyloric valve (the sphincter at the bottom of the old part of your stomach) will still function after all this time has passed, but it is worth a try. I have read of other failed RNYs revised to a DS.
