Question:
What are the symptoms of a leak?

How do i tell if it is me short of breath or what? Can someone please give me some ideas on what to look to so i don't stress myself out after my surgery?    — MARTI B. (posted on April 26, 2004)

Most leaks are found while you are in the hospital or within a couple of days of being home. I'm not sure on the exact symptoms, but they may include abdominal pain and fever. The shortness of breath would more likely occur with a pulmonary embolism. Do a search in the library for a better list of symptoms for both these complications. Also, ask your surgeon for a list of what he considers significant enough to call him about.
