Question:
Women over 50, did you have a breast lift with augmentation?

I would love to hear from any of you that may have had a breast lift with implants. Are you happy with the results? Would you do it again? I had a consult with my plastic surgeon this week regarding round two of my body reconstruction, and I addressed the subject of augmentation. I think I surprised him by asking this question. I do not want to look like a twenty year old, but I would love to feel more feminine. When I lay down, I have nothing but "fried eggs". The surgeon explained that I couldn't have the lift without the implants, since I have no volume left. I have gone from a 46D to a 34B and it is a stretch to fill that out. I visit the plastic surgeon again next week and he will give me the price breakdown and let me know how he will work this procedure into my other two upcoming procedures. But I would like to hear from others as reassurance that I am making the correct decision.    — [Deactivated Member] (posted on September 10, 2004)

Well, I am not sure I would go with this doctor then because he or she should work with the patient to achieve the results that the patient wants. Do you really want implants or can you live with a 34B? I am about the same size as you were maybe a little bit larger I think I was a 48F. I just went to a PS this last week and we discussed a breast lift also and my doctor was fine with me not wanting implants. He also should me in the mirror what my breasts would possibly end up looking like when he did the lift. I would end up at about the same as you a 34B or C at the very most and I am fine with that and so is he. For me I am fine with out having the implants. I was so big for so many years and I am tired of it and want to be smaller now. I had too many back aches from the extra weight in front. But, all in all it is your decision. My opinion is is that the doctor is making the decision on how he feels that you should look and not how you want to look in the end. Good luck.

I'm 5'7, 150 and had a breast lift (no implants) and went from a 38DD to 38C with just what was left with my own tissue. We discussed the augmentation and my PS said he would do it at a discounted fee if I wasn't satisfied with the 'natural, youthful' look that he would give to me with just the lift and really urged me to try it that way first. He was absolutely right. I have the breasts of a young woman now and don't have to worry about having a revision to an augmentation at the age of 63 (ten years average life of implants from what I've read). Also, it's a lot easier to get a true reading on a mammogram without an implant. Now, if I were in my 20's or 30's, I may have gone for the whole kit and kaboodle but not at 53. Tough decision.... good luck!

I had a lift with implants at 52 (three years ago) and I am very happy with the results. I am 5'8" and 124 pounds. I have no idea what size I was when I had the breast surgery because I was still wearing old 36C bras, but putting silicone pads called "Curves" in them. The implants I got were about the same size as the curves I had been wearing; I'm now usually a 34D. That's fine for me and I really like the look. Feel free to email me personally for details if you want. hugs, Ann .... RNY 9/10/99 ..... 260/124
