Question:
Is this normal??

I am scheduled for open RNY next week on the 26th, For the past five days or so I have had a headache (not a bad one) and I feel my heart fluttering and occasionally I get a little dizzy. Is this anxiety? All I have been able to think about is the upcoming surgery. I don't know if something is wrong with me or if it is just nerves?? Has anyone experienced anything like this just before surgery?? Please let me know!! Thanks so much!! Christie    — Christie D. (posted on April 17, 2000)

Christie, although I would check with your doctor, I also am having surgery next week (25th) and I am very nervous about it and feel like it is just about the only thing on my mind these days too. I have had sleeplessness, headaches, racing heartbeat ... I think anxiety hits people differently sometimes, but for me, I'm pretty sure that's what it is. Good luck and hang in there!

HEY! Who let you in my house???!!! I'm feeling the same things, Christie...I think it's just physical manifestations of stress and anxiety. I'm scheduled for 4/26, and am doing my best to stay positive. It's a concerted effort, I'll tell you. Good luck to all of us!

Hi Christie: It sounds like anxiety, but you should speak with your doctor anyway. I know some doctors will prescribe something to help you relax and rest if you need it. This might help you to not feel so stressed while you're waiting for your procedure. Good luck next week!

Christie, My surgery date is 4/28 and last week and the week before all I could do was cry, and be hard to live with. This week I am strangely calm, how weird is that! I think it really helps to come to this sight and read, read, read. Everyone here is so supportive. I go to bed everynight feeling I have made the right decision. Hang in there! Barb Trapp
