Question:
Has anyone had WLS and other surgery at same time by different Dr.'s

I found a surgeon who will do WLS but won't do a Tubal Ligation but will allow another surgeon to come in before or after him to do the Tubal. Has anyone had this done? Combining surgeries using more than one Surgeon?    — Karen W. (posted on April 30, 2002)

On March 1st I had a LAP gallbladder and a Rotator Cuff surgerie done by two different surgeons. In fact each surgeon assisted the other one. It can be done, however the RNY, in my opinion, is a rather tough surgery. (I've had 14 surgeries so I can compair). And to combine it with another abdomial surgery may be a bit much. However if you are under 30 (for a ball park figure) it may be ok. I'm 44 and every surgery I have takes so much out of me as I age. One more thing, if your WLS is LAP then both proceedures at the same surgery will no doubt be much easier. The Open was very painful and hard to recover from (for me anyway). Good luck.

I have not personally had this done, but I am an RN who worked in the OR for years and this practice was done safely when it was done. I think that your doc is upstanding to have a gyn (I assume) doing the tubal ligation as this would fall into their area of expertise, not his/hers as a general surgeon. Good luck!

My surgery is scheduled for 8/1 and i am having my tubes tied and open RNY at the same time. My doctors have no problem with it. I am also having a pannilectomy done by my asst surgeon who is a plastic surgeon/surgeons son. GOOD LUCK : )

I had a giant (basketball sized) ovarian cyst and my ovaries removed by my gyn first and then the WLS by my WLS surgeon second all in one operation. I was open because of the size of the cyst. I was 44 at the time and had no problems in recovery.

WHEN I HAD MY WLS IN 1998 I HAD A GYN TO COME IN AND REMOVE SOME OF MY FEMALE PARTS. IT WAS DONE BY TO DIFFERENT DOCTORS AND EVERYTHING WENT WELL. THE TRUTH IS THAT YOU ARE ASLEEP AND YOU WOULD NOT KNOW IF YOU HAD 12 DOCTORS DOING DIFFERENT THINGS TO YOU. GOOD LUCK I HOPE THAT ALL GOES WELL FOR YOU.

Has anyone heard or has gone to St. John's Hospital in Camp Hill, Penna. for WLS ? I can't seem to get any information on this surgery at that hospital. thanks!
