Question:
How long were you in the hospital for hernia repair, tummy tuck...

and gall bladder removal?    — Marie A. (posted on February 4, 2003)

I had a very extensive hernia repair and abdominoplasty, I was in the hospital for 4 days, on my bed at home pretty much useless for a month, and back at work after 2 months. My Plastic Surgeon said my case was extreme, which I have noticed is true. Most others report far less recovery time.

1 over night is typical for these.

I was in the hospital for 3 days, and back to normal within a few weeks other than the swelling and bruising which I still have almost 7 weeks out. Just take it easy do what you feel comfortable doing as your surgeon lets you. It's usually six weeks before you can do anything. Tonjia

My situation was like Cara's in that my tummy tuck was very extensive. I stayed post op 6 days and then flew home (had it done out of country for financial reasons). I also had a very long recovery. I was definitely not prepared for how long and to what extent I was "out of commission". Its definitely dependent on the person and magnitude of work done. I'm always thinking "wow" when someone talks about having it done and going home the next day.

I had hernia repair, full abdominoplasty, and inner thigh lift on a Monday. I stayed two nights in the hospital, with a wonderful Demoral drip. I was able to drive and go back to classes that lasted about 3 hours on the following Monday. It would have been nice to take off at least a couple of weeks, but I really wanted to take that class.
