Question:
Does Medicare pay for wls in West Virginia?

I was scheduled for wls in November 2002. Just before my surgery date I was told that Medicare no longer paid for the wls. Recently, I went to the Medicare web site and found info stating that they would pay for wls. I have called several wls doctors in my area and they all say that as far as they know that Medicare will not pay for the wls. Can anyone help me find out if they will pay for it?    — denise O. I DON'T KNOW ABOUT WEST VIRGINIA, BUT I JUST HAD WLS 7 WEEKS AGO AND I HAVE MEDICARE. HERE IN OHIO THE PAY FOR IT AND YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO BE PRE-APPROVED. YOU CAN CALL THE 1-800 # AND THEY WILL TELL YOU IF THEY PAY FOR IT AND WHAT THEIR REQUIREMENTS ARE.

I just had WLS on November 30, 2004, and Medicare covered it. I had mine done at The Center for Weight Loss Surgery in Lexington, KY, but I could have had it done anywhere.
