Question:
what does everyone think of calling the hospital......

I was just curious about how people would feel about posting their hospital and the phone number where their surgery will be at so any one can call all our WLS friends who just had surgery and say hello and see how there doing...any comments or sugestions please feel free to send them. Every one have a great day Frank...... PS. i'm 37 today, lol    — Frank R. (posted on July 17, 2000)

I agree with the previous posts. I had a roommate who got lots of phone calls. She didn't seem to mind, but I was awakened a few too many times. And, being awakened by a loudly ringing phone made me jump, which set of spasms in my abdominal muscles. Needless to say, every ring was followed by a scream from me. As soon as my roommate was discharged from the hospital, I unplugged the phone, and only plugged it back in if I was awake and alert.

I wholeheartedly agree with the other posts. Only close relatives should be calling you in the hospital, and only when you are up to it. You need to get lots of rest, you sleep odd hours, you're on drugs - etc. I would suggest that we do not give out our hospital phone numbers for either the caring or the curious WLS members to call.

I am having my surgery tomorrow and I asked my family that only family members be invited to visit. I know I will be in pain w/ tubes in my nose, cathater, and IV. I don't think I will feel like visiting much even w/ family members. Others can visit me when I am at home. I think that I will also ask that I not get any calls, at least for the first 24 hours after surgery if not longer. I visited 2 new post op patients in the hospital last week. They did not seem like they were in any shape to jump and answer the phones when they rang. I hope people are not offended but I have to look at what is in my own best interest right now.

Happy Birthday Frank, you sound like such a caring person, and I can see why you think this is a good idea, the people you are close to are lucky to have such a concerned supportive friend. But I agree probably not a good idea, but I sure see your heart is in the right place.
