Question:
Can it be possible to be at goal in 9 months?

I have a couple of questions here. 1. I will be 12 weeks Thanksgiving day and 16 weeks out Christmas day what type of food should I be eating, and where weight wise is typical to be at these points? 2. I will be having surgery 1 day before my husbands b-day and will be exactly 9 months out on my son's birthday, is it possible to be at "goal" weight in that short of time? I am 5'4" and weigh 275lbs, "goal" weight is 135-140? Thanks in advance.! Kelly    — kelkel319 (posted on August 11, 2003)

This is just my '2 cents worth', but at 12 & 16 weeks, I would think you should be able to eat a main course of meat and a veggie if you have room left over, just remember to go slow and chew, chew, chew. As far as being at goal in 9 months, I guess it will depend on how much you eat for Thanksgiving and Christmas! No, really, a lot of how much you lose, and how fast, is really going to be up to you. Are you willing to get all of your water in (60-80 ounces)? Are you willing to stick to a high protien, low carb diet? And are you willing to exercise 45+ minutes a day (and really break a sweat) 4-6 times a week? Even then, there are no guarantees as there are many factors to consider. Is it possible, yes. Will you make it in 9 months, maybe. But, you know, even if you don't make it by then, you will be so much healthier and happier that it shouldn't matter too much anyway. Good luck with your surgery! I lost to my original goal by 8 1/2 months. I am 5'2" and I started at 263 and had lost to 139. In the next few months I lost down to approx. 122 and I have been here now for 2 years. See my profile. I don't know how typical that was, especially since I've not exercised at all and have never counted calories, protein or fat grams!! I've just lived normally. Like the previous poster said, you might not be at that goal (or you might actually be past it!), but wherever you are you will feel and look incredible. Shelley

Kelly, there are some who have lost that much in 9 months, but why set yourself up for failure/disappointment if you don't make goal in 9 months? It may take you twice as long to get there, but the bottom line is you can get there, but perhaps not at the pace you set. Instead, as I tell other pre-and early post-ops, relax and enjoy the ride. Sticking to the pouch rules, regular exercise, lots of water and you will get there.

I just go by the protein first and carbs almost never rule. You will get full so fast that the feared temptation to eat all of the other junk just won't be there, especially at 12 weeks and before. I was 5'7" and 277 pre op. I am still 5'7" but at 7 months out I am 170 and just 20 pounds from my goal. I could make it by 9 months if the loss stays as steady as it has so far. I agree with the previous poster that your success is up to you.To be perfectly honest I barely exercise though I have a MUCH more active lifestyle than I did before. I get 90 grams of protein per day minimum and the more water I drink the faster I lose the weight. I am also of the belief, and this is documented in studies, that taking advantage of professional help post op helps you to lose faster and steadier. I still see my nutritionist weekly. Good Luck!

I was 140 at 9 months and had my tt then. A couple of weeks later, I was at my goal of 130. A couple of weeks after that, I lost another 5 pounds and really liked 125 so I decided that was going to be my new goal weight. I started out at 5'2 - 248 pounds. There was a LOT of exercising though to get me to goal so fast.
