Question:
Has anyone experienced hair loss after hernia surgery?

I had hernia surgery in June of this year and for the past few weeks my hair has been coming out in hand-fulls. Has this happened to anyone else? Does your hair always fall out after surgery?    — Lynne R. (posted on September 27, 2004)

Yep, mine does. Did after my c-section. Did after my DS. Did after my hernia repair/abdominoplasty. Totally stinks, huh?! Up your water and protein, ask your surgeon if it's okay to take zinc sulfate (I know it is for DS post-ops, but not sure if it is for RNY post-ops), and try Bed Head Self-Absorbed shampoo and conditioner. Yep, me too. Always lose some hair if I have general anesthesia and I lost hair after I had my two kids too.

Yup, me too. 3 months after any general anesthesia and I have a 3 month period of hair loss. The jury is out on whether its caused by the anesthesia or the overall trauma to the body that surgery causes.

I've had 3 surgeries and one child - my hair fell out after each of them. The good news is I never went bald!! I think it's just my bodies way of dealing with the anesthesia and the trauma.

I lost just as much if not more hair after my hernia repair as I did after the RNY...good news is it is growing back!

Darn! I was wondering about hair loss after the hernia repair. Mine is scheduled for october 18th. My hair is finally growing back and I just got it cut short this week because it looked so awful. I hate it short, but figured it will grow back and it looked so bad. Even though I don't like it, it does look healthier this way. Hopefully I won't lose too much more hair! Good luck to you and hopefully your hair will all grow back.

I didnt have any hair loss after my hernia/panniculectomy surgery- so there is hope :)
