Hello... you and I are not far apart in beginning stats. I am a bit taller than you at 5'5" and started out at 291. I have not reached goal but I am 6 months out and only 32 lbs from goal. I anticipate that it may take me another 4-6 months to lose the next 30 lbs. It's possible that it won't but just from seeing others with my similar stats, it seems to be that way. The way cool thing is since I've slowed down a bit, I'm shrinking like a mad woman. My body is taking on a wonderful womanly shape that I haven't had in years and I'm really enjoying it. I walk like I'm 10 feet tall now and feel really good about my health and my self esteem is much higher. So... all in all, the weight loss goal is only part of this wonderful journey. Just enjoy discovering the YOU that is underneath. God bless you.

I'm a little taller than you also. I started out at 293 lbs. and 5'6". I was very close to goal by about 11 months post-op and the last 20 lbs. came off very slow. Took about a total of 14 months, I'd say. Good luck!

Hi, I was 290 and 5'3" tall--surgery was 5/16/03 as of today 11/20/03 I am 185--that is 105 in 6months. I am hoping to lose at least 45 more pounds. I feel great went from size 26-28 to right now lose 18. My goal is to get to a size 10,but would be happy at a 12.

I am 5'2 and weighed 299 on my first visit to the surgeon. He required a 10% loss so I was 272 the day of surgery, 10/22/02. I now weigh 155. How soon you reach goal will depend on several things. First is your goal realistic given your age and the amount of excess skin you will have. My doctor added 10# for my age and 15 for the hanging skin. So at 13 months I am 5# from goal. Another thing that will determine how long it takes is how often you yo yo'ed over the years. Exercise helps it come off faster to. Just try to follow the doctors orders and take one day at a time.

I'M 5'3" AND STARTED OUT AT 282 LBS WHEN I HAD SURGERY ON 9/12/02. I REACHED MY DOCTORS GOAL OF 132 IN MAY (8 MONTHS OUT) AND AM NOW AT 113 LBS (SIZE 2) AT 14 MONTHS OUT. I THINK HAD REACHED MY CURRENT WEIGHT AT 11 MONTHS!

I am 5'3" and I was 298 post-op. My surgery was 09/05/03 and I now weigh 238 lbs. So far I have lost 60 lbs in just under three months. I have been lucky, so far. I cannot tolerate any protein shakes, I have tried many, but I have no problem with sugar (I don't eat much though- I never was one for sweets) I do eat popcorn and chips at least a couple times a week. I know I should have a protein filled snack, but I am able to eat more when I focus on something like popcorn. I hope I can break this habit before I can eat a lot more though. At this point in time, I had been plateauing because I was not eating enough food; my body thought I was starving it. So even though I could make better choices, it seems that snacking on those carb-filled snacks have actually helped speed up my weight loss. Now, I need to focus on the exercising! Good luck in the future and congrats to all the "losers" out there, you guys rock!
