Question:
What is the time frame for 1st consult w/bariatric surgery office to actual surgery?

It depends on how your surgeon's office schedules things. I waited 7 months just to get the initial consult, but that day I had my surgery date. It was scheduled one month from that day. Just when you think the waiting is killing you, your day arrives. Good luck!

Initial consult 03/05/01, surgery 10/03/01. The length of time would have been shortened greatly if I had originally chosen a surgeon that had an office staff that knew which direction was north. I changed Doctors in late July, with my insurance approval in hand. I delayed my surgery date by two weeks to better fit with my families schedule,

That is a tough question because there are so many variables. It depends on when the Drs office gets the info to the insurance, how long the ins taked to review and give and answer, how far ahead the dr is scheduling and so on. For me the hold up was the psych eval. For some reason it took them 4 weeks to get my results back to the surgeon's office! In any case, you will find answers ranging from a few weeks to much longer.

Hi! It varies depending on the office. I got my consult with Gomez within a month of my calling. I would have had my date sooner but insurance denied me at first :) With a previous surgeon I had trie dit was a 5 month wait just to get the consult then after being approved it was a 2 month wait for surgery. So it varies. But in my opinion a good surgeon is worth waiting for. And if the office staff is efficient (as my doc's is) the wait isn't so bad if you're confident that they are fighting for you :)

I had my first appointment APRIL 9, 2002 with the surgeon and am scheduled for surgery on MAY 31, 2002. About 6 weeks later, I actually could have gotten a closer surgery date, but I am still in school. It depends on how busy your surgeon is and how popular he is, i have a friend wh waited 4 months from 1st comsult to surgery. GoodluckI its hard to be patient, but it will happen!

HI HON, I WENT TO BTC ON 3/01/02 --MY SURGERY IS 4/25/02 SO APPROX 6 WEEKS. BUT IM ONE OF THE QUICKEST THEY HAVE EVER HAD. THE TRICK IS TO KNOW WHAT U NEED TO HAVE DONE BEFORE 1ST CONSULT. I ALREADY HAD MY PSHY EVAL, MEDICAL REC'S, A LIST OF DIET DOCUMENTATIOON, AND AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE SLEEP STUDY LAB (JUST IN CASE). IT PAID OFF TOO. GOOD LUCK HON, FIND OUT WHAT U WILL BE NEEDING TO DO EARLY--THEN SHOW SOME INTIATIVE YOU WILL BE SOOO HAPPY YOU DID SWEETY.

I had to wait 6 weeks after making the appointment for my intial consultation, which was Feb. 20. But then things moved pretty quickly. My insurance approved me 8 days later, and I'm having surgery on May 7. But, I think it really depends on your insurance company and how far in advance your surgeon is scheduling. I have United HealthCare, which is great about approving this surgery quickly. Good luck!

Funny you should ask... I am having some difficulties with the office staff at my surgeon's office as we speak. I called in December and my initial consultation was 2/20/02. After a nightmare with the Dr's insurance coordinators not submitting all of the paperwork needed to my insurance company, a denial, an appeal and finally an approval on 3/11/02....still no surgery date scheduled. It appears that my surgeon is in need of a larger office staff! As you can see, it all depends on so many factors - how busy the surgeon's practice is, the efficiency of the office staff and your insurance company. Good luck to you!!! : )
