Question:
I am in Western North Carolina and cannot find a primary care physician..

None of the ones I know I support WLS...I already have an appointment with a surgeon, but I am going to need a PCP referral..Help!!!    — Amy S. (posted on July 3, 2002)

Where in WNC are you? My PCP in Sylva is great- Ulrika Stenhammar. She was encouraging all the way. Good luck!

A nice tactic for some PCP is to just ask them for a referral to discuss the possiblities of WLS with a surgeon. This way it takes the pressure off in some ways as the surgeon then becomes the decision-maker, not the PCP. Are there several PCPs in the practice? Try talking to various ones within the practice. You just want the referral to talk to the specialist which you have the right to do! Good Luck! I live in Charlotte, but had the surgery done last year in PA.
