Question:
Pears....Apples.....difference??
I am a pear-shaped woman...I have read in the NIH reports that this surgery is for "apple shaped" people...I sent all my paperwork to my surgeon (he is in another state) and just got approval for surgery from my insuance co. (wahoo!)..just worried..I will not meet my surgeon til day before surgery and worried about being pear instead of apple....does this matter???? Am I just looking for anything that may go wrong???? I found this cool link and once you enter your waist and hip sizes (in
inches), it calculates for you and tells you which shape you are.

My surgeon never mentioned to me that the body "shape" is even
considered when you're planning on having the surgery. I thought I was an
apple but it says I'm a pear. I would say don't worry. As long as you are
in good health on the day of surgery, you should have no problems.

WHAT? Does that mean your knees are worth less than my lungs & heart?
Apples lose organs, pears lose knees. I can't see any advantage to keeping
any weight on. I tend to think that was not written by someone who's
packing around an extra hundred or two pounds, huh?

I am a pear shape and was told by my doctor that the weight on my hips and
thighs would be hard to lose. But the weight has come off them very nicly.
I've lost 10 inches off the top of my thighs (my worst spot).So don't worry
the weight will come off a pear.

Not trying to be difficult, just curious, whyhave you never met your
surgeon? And why would anyone allow someone to be there surgeon without
meeting with them several times....This just seems very absurd to me. One
might want to question what type of surgeon he/she is if he doesn't even
have time for his patients pre-op, what kind of care could he give post-op
is he isn't even around before?
Please don't take offense, just curious, no disrespect?
