Hi. I also live in SC and my insurance company is Pacific Life and Annuity (Beech Street). Though my insurance is through my company, I am pretty sure that they also offer individual plans. The only exclusion in mine was the "medical necessity" clause and you have to be 100 lbs. overweight. I was approved after only one letter and the only co-morbs I have are weak knees and ankles. I did not have to have doctor-supervised diets like many need. Of course, my insurance only pays 70/30 (after 10k, it pays 100%), but thats better than nothing at all. If you are interested, email me and I will find you the number to call....

When I was looking into policies this spring BCBS had an individual policy that paid for WLS if it was medically necessary. Unfortunately because of weight/health I was denied coverage on that policy - sort of a catch 22. I've heard that BCBS is going to stop covering it soon, although that I don't know anything solid about that.
