Question:
Soy Protein Shakes ok?

I'm still pre-op but wondered if anyone out there uses soy protein shakes. I have found a site on the web, called Revival, that makes great tasting shakes & bars. These are the highest (according to them) in soy protein that you can buy. I bought some recently for perimenopausal support & general nutrition & they really give me energy! hiya! you'll absorb the most protein from whey isolate, then whey concentrate then soy protein. i've been unable to locate exact (or close to exact) amounts of how much we truly absorb though with the pre-digested whey i understand we take in 100%. i use a soy protein powder that can be cooked with in addition to the whey. you can see what i use at: www.geocities.com/katebme2002 look on page 2 of the files in "my supplements" i hope this helps... kate

I, too, use mainly whey concentrate. I have used some soy but it tastes too chalky to me post-op. I made a great little discovery today...thought I would share. I bought individual bottles of LottaBlast Designer Protein Blast Protein supplement drink. It is 16 ounces and had 40 grams of designer wehy protein blend. In your early days post-op, this will be a big help. Tastes just like crystal light and not at all gritty or chalky. They cost 2.99 per bottle but with a gold care membership they cost me only 1.50 per bottle. Just another thought. April

My nutritionist says that soy is not as well absorbed as whey protein. If you have had breast cancer or have a family history of breast cancer, high doses of soy are not advised as they are natural sources of plant estrogens. The upside to soys is I believe they are more stable to cook with, whey detiorates when it is heated. Good luck.
