Question:
Has anyone ever thought of switching surgeons because the coordinator was unhelpful?

The coordinator working for my surgeon is so rude. I realize that she is busy, however she never returns messages and when you do talk with her it is like you are wasting her time. She even told me once before that she cannot drop everything for me. I am on my third insurance and the first time the surgeon's office dropped my insurance and did not even bother calling me. So, one day I called the insurance to check on approval and insurance company said that my surgeon had stopped taking my insurance. This was about three years ago and I was about six months in the process. Now it is like my approval is a phone call away and she cannot even make a five minute phone call to the insurance to verify my info. The surgeon has a rep. for being one of the best in the business, but I am seriously thinking about switching surgeons because of her attitude. Thank you for listening.    — Brandi C. I have not run into that problem but I think you bring up a very valid point. I think it has be the entire package. If this person is a go-between you and the doctor what if there is a serious problem and she refuses to tell the doctor or considers it a waste of his time. I think I would first bring it up to the surgeon if you get a chance to talk to him. Often times the doctors are not aware what goes on out front. Or the doctor has a good heart and the front person is told to run interference for him. Could be several factors. But it is something to consider. I was fortunate I had a competent surgeon with great staff working hand and hand with him. Go with your instincts..if you are not comfortable then seek out another doctor and facility. Good luck to you on your journey. Hugs, Char

I had the same problem when I started my quest for WLS. The surgeon I chose was one that was close and did his surgeries lap. His office staff what rude, condescending, didn't return messages or e-mails or even try and help when I got denied by my insurance. Actually, when the girl called me and told me I was denied, she almost sounded... HAPPY?!?!?!? Needless to say, I went to Mexico to have my surgery due to self paying and I never encountered another bitter office coordinator. Thank God! My advice to you is to FIND ANOTHER SURGEON. If they can't treat you right, someone else will. BTW... my sister ended up having surgery 7 months later with a different surgeon than I had encountered previously because of his staff and this other surgeon had the BEST team in the office and at the hospital. Good luck to you!
