Question:
Anyone approved with low bmi that has bc/bs ppo of florida

Hi I am currently scheduled for consultation with surgeon in couple days. I have a bmi of 39 and was wondering if anyone that has bc/bs ppo of florida has been approved with that bmi with no major co-morbities, (ie sleep apnea, HTN, or diabetes)? Is it enough to get qualified? I do have other related co morbities however not life threating as the ins would call it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.    — Erin E. I'm not sure about your specific insurance company, but I believe most approve BMI's of 40 and above without co-morbities and 35-40 with co-morbities. I would call your insurance company and find out their specifics.

HI YOU NEED TO CALL YOUR INSURANCE AND FIND OUT WHAT THIER REQUIREMENTS ARE. I HAVE BCBS AND YOU NEED TO BE 100LBS OVERWEIGHT THAT IS ALL. SO CALL AND FIND OUT WHAT YOU ARE WORKING FOR OR AGIANST. WHEN YOU FIND OUT BESURE TO LET THE DOCTOR KNOW TO PUT THAT IN THE PAPERWORK WHEN HE FILES FOR YOU. GOOD LUCK

Just an FYI, the newspaper recently published that BC/BS Florida was not going to pay for ANY weight loss surgeries anymore whether you had co-morbids or not. They felt it was too costly. You better check with your insurance.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/HEALTH/03/03/gastric.bypass.ap/index.html is the link to an article that discusses BC/BS of Florida dropping coverage for weight loss surgery. It's not until the end of this year, if I read the article correctly. Good luck!
