Question:
My operation is 3/15. How scared is TOO scared?

Please keep me in your prayers this wednesday! I keep getting these waves of fear. I just want it over with, no family to be with me.    — Patricia G. (posted on March 11, 2000)

My surgery is 3/14 and at this point I am no longer nervous. I had my pre-op with my doctor, Dr. Wittgrove, on Friday, and I surprisingly feel quite calm. I think it is normal to be nervous, you just need to keep reminding yourself why you are having this surgery. We all have different reasons for the surgery, different medical problems, etc., Focus in on one or two of your most important goals.

Patricia, I just had surgery 3-6-00 and I just have this advice. DAY BY DAY. every day gets better. WALK, WALK, WALK. You will think they are crazy because you WILL be GASSY and UNCOMFORTABLE if you are having an open RNY. No one enphsised on the GAS and I wish they had. I am now 6 days post op and have no regrets. Still sometimes a bit uncomfortable but each day feeling better and better. I make myself WALK. Good luck and let me know how you are doing. Dana Estrada [email protected].

Patricia, My surgery date is 3/15 also. I think I was more nervous last week and now that my date is here I am feeling much better about it. I posted a support message and was so greatful to have gotten back so many support messages from my WLS family. They are wonderful!!! I feel like I have educated myself as best I can and understand all the risks. I have talked to enough people that have helped me to understand what to expect after surgery. I am looking forward to feeling better every day. You are not alone in your feelings, but remember we are all here for you!!! God Bless and keep in touch Love, Sue

I wish you the best of luck and you will be in my prayers. During the 5 days I was in the hospital, I only had someone with me the first day, and I was so out of it from morphine I really dont remember. After that I was on my own and 4 hours from home. I am sorta glad it happened that way because that forced me to do things for myself and the more you move the quicker you recover. Even when I got home, I had to face 2 children and my husband that had an erratic work schedule, so I continued to do things on my own. Just keep the faith!!! Kim

Patricia, Know that you will be in my prayers on Wed. Your feelings of nervousness are 100% normal. I had my surgery on 1-11-00 {down 47lbs. yippee!} and just brought my friend home from her surgery which was last Tue. I remember all to well the nervousness. Just remember it will all be worth it. Think positive thoughts and keep focused on what the rewards will be. I'm a firm believer that when it's my time to go, I will go, whether it's getting hit by a car, or on the O.R table. You will do fine, you have a lot of people on your side. Good luck. .......Dani

Patricia, I don't think there is a "too scared" answer! I was perfectly calm up to the day before surgery, then I panicked! I was in the chat room a dozen times all day, crying and blubbering like you wouldn't believe! The support I found there got me through the day! Then, the night before surgery, a wonderful couple that my husband and I know offered to pray with us. The peace after THAT was unbelievable. I even went to bed and slept soundly through the night before surgery. Keep the faith, and let God work wonders in your life, both through the friends you have here, and through the surgery you are having!

PATRICIA, WE'LL BE WITH YOU EVERY STEP PRAYING FOR YOU. THIS IS A NEW BEGINING FOR YOU. GOD HAS GIVEN YOU A STEPPING STONE, SO DON'T BE AFRAID. THE BOOK OF DANIEL 3:25 I SEE FOUR MEN LOOSE WALKING IN THE MIDST OF THE FIRE, AND THEY HAVE NO HURT; AND THE FORM OF THE FOURTH IS LIKE THE SON OF GOD. PATRICIA GOD IS ALREADY THERE.

Patty I had the laporscopic adjustable done which is completly rversable you might want to think about that instead of what you are having go to www.bioentrics.com and push non US to find out more about it . It is not available in the states yet but is being investigated here. Patty Rice Kaattlady @aol. com started June 19 1999 and have lost 70 lbs and feel great.

HI Patricia! My surgery is scheduled for 3/15 too! I'm nervous too. I think that it is just normal to be anxious of the unknown. We can just go thru this together. My surgery is scheduled for 8AM at Carmel St Vincents. Good Luck Girl. Just think. We'll be able to plant flowers, take walks, all the fun stuff that other "normal" people take for granted. I'm 5'1 1/2" and weigh 243lbs. I'll be able to bend over and tie my shoes and reach my behind. Not to mention being able to buy pretty clothes. Instead of going to the Big Mama sizes. Just wanted you to know that your not alone! Thelma Munns
