Question:
Why does everyone seem to drop in clothing size so much faster than me?

So many people talk about dropping in clothes sizes so fast with their weight loss, like 3-4 sizes with a 50 lb weight loss. I'm 5'3" and have lost 100 lbs., but I've only gone down from size 28 to a 24. I must admit there are 2 areas of my body that keep me from a smaller size--my big hanging stomach and my very large calves.    — jan M. (posted on August 30, 2002)

Jan, I'm down 46 lbs and have gone from a 26-22. Everyone's body shape is different, you're doing great. Congrats with 100 pound weight loss!!

I started in a 22/24. It seemed like forever to get down to an 18. I really stayed in the larger sizes for a long period of time. Then when I hit the 18, it took less weight loss to get into the 16. I'm finding that as you get smaller, the quicker you go through the sizes. Be patient, it will happen! And you also need to go for a non-purchasing shopping spree. Just go one day just to try on clothes to see where you are at. You just may be surprised to see that you can wear a smaller size even though you can still 'wear' a 24.

I sympathize. I've lost 55 lbs but I've only gone down 1-2 sizes depending on which item of clothing your talking aboutt. I am really desperate to get into smaller pants, but the hip/stomach area has barely changed at all!

There is also a difference between larger sizes and smaller ones. By that I mean the difference between a 24 and a 28 is much more than between a 10 and a 12.

Jan you are doing soo good, dont stress over the size of clothes you are wearing they are probably to big on you, you just dont see that yet because you mind hasnt caught up with your weight loss. also, it does take a long time to get down to those smaller sizes. expecially when you were a 26-18, once you get down to 16 it will fly im sure. good luck im sure you look awesome girl!!!

You are so right. Everyone is different. I have lost 70 pounds and am down from a 26 pant to a 20 - 4 sizes, but that only happened in the last 7 pounds, just 3 weeks ago I tried on the same 20 I thought it would be 20 more pounds before I could get in those pants LOL. I have heard 10 pounds = 1 size - NOT !!!! You are doing great!!! Keep up the good work, and it will all work out.

It takes longer to move out of the larger size clothes (maybe the material they use, maybe the generous cuts), but once in the teens, it seems to move fairly quickly- I could wear my 22's for a long time, but I could not wear the 18's for very long!
