Question:
Help! I hate water!!

Is sugar free koolaid and decaffinated iced tea w/ splenda okay to replace water? Will it still benefit me in my weight loss like water would?    — Melissa M. (posted on February 9, 2003)

My nutritionist says yes. I say yes. However, there are people on here that would tell you only to drink water. My favorite is Lipton Diet Decaffeinated Iced Tea Mix with Lemon. I have no problem whatsoever in getting 4 16oz glasses of that in a day. At 7 months post-op, occasionally I will have a diet soda - although I have to burp a lot to relieve the pressure *G*. I'm down 152 pounds at 6 3/4 months, so it doesn't seem to have affected my weight loss...JR

I've finally developed a taste for water, but I make KoolAide with Splenda and drink it at home-- at work I drink water, decaf hot and cold tea as well as the occasional portable (single serving) Crystal Light. My doc also says diet Snapple is ok. -- Jen, RnY 11/12/02

I went thru that awful phase after surgery too. It was a real schock to me because I didn't expect to be yucked out by my favorite drink. I tried everything to quench my thirst and eventually was able to drink warm herbal tea for b-fast, no-sugar added cocoa and watered down gatorade. Don't worry tho, it does get better - I am know able to gulp water like I used to! Good Luck! Anne F

I switched to drinking Dasani Water and I love it. I still can't stand the taste of our tap water since surgery.

Hiya Melissa :). Boy, I know how you're feeling! I'm only 6 weeks post-op, and have gone for a few weeks where I can't stand water and it hurts my tummy! I've found that I can handle drinking Crystal Light though. We recently installed a water filter on our faucet, and I make with that. It sits really well. Good luck!!!

I've found that adding lemon and a little Splenda makes water taste a lot better.

Sugar-free Tang is also an excellent substitute for water. :D
