Question:
Where are all the MEN???

This site has been extremely helpful, but it is posted by about 99% women. I need to hear from men who have gone through the procedure. How hard was it to lose (RNY)? What did it do for your career? What did it do for your marriage? I need to lose about 130-150. Any advise you can give would be helpful!    — [Anonymous] (posted on February 11, 2002)

Well, I'm not a man, but my husband certainly qualifies. He doesn't do lists & sites, but he is always happy to speak with pre & post-ops. He's also very involved in support groups & one-on-one support. His surgery was 10/95 and he lost 110# in 4 months & has kept it off since. If you wanted to write to him, he'd respond. I had my surgery 2-19-01 wow a year already and i have lost 165# It was the best thing i have ever done for myself. As for my marrige we have our ups and down just like any others but its alot stronger now because of the weight loss. and as for my job i think i get alot more respect but i know that there is some people that think i took the easy way out. they will never know what i have gone through to make the choice of having the surgery. p.s. our sex life is unbeliveable

I really cant understand why were so under represented here. My profile has details of life post op. Loosing is easy and FAST. Everyone is different but men typically loose fast. I lost over a 110 pounds to goal in less than 6 months. Surgery is the BEST decision I ever made for myself! I cant comment on the career issue, as I am self employeed. Looking good has to help, some employeers still feel fat equals lazy. Both me and my wife have now had surgery, but its too early to comment on long term marriage affects. Short term its GREAT to feel good and want to be active and doing things. Hopefully the loss will help my wife get pregnant and feel like caring for a child. My only regret is that I didnt do this years ago. My 6 month blood work was normal for the first time since at least 1985. Diabetes, BP, cholestrol, lipids, etc all normal:) I encourage you to have surgery it GREAT!

i have noticed more women than men also, i know the men are out there.. but i also have noticed when i go to my dr.'s office, the very crowded waiting room is filled with 90% women.. i had an rny on 11-2-2001 i was 425#, today a little over 3 months out, i've lost 110# i feel better already, off blood pressure meds,, it's normal. sleep apnea leaving, and 2-19-2002 i'm getting my hip implant surgery, a hip that was damaged in a car accident. i also have a profile, and i have also had a million questions, most of them have been answered with this greatest of all web sites. it has saved me countless calls to my dr. in pittsburgh 30 miles away. thank all of you for helping me lose and learn..

Go up to FIND PEERS and LOCAL HELP. You can find people who have posted here in your neighborhood. Contact them directly. I emailed about a dozen people in my area about drs and such and found it nice to have advice from someone near by. The one lady I found lives 6 blocks from me.
