Question:
Any creative bathing suit ideas for longer term posties??

I'm pretty much thinking black full piece with a LONG t-shirt to cover my melted wax skin sydrome...any better ideas?? I'm noticing a lot of places selling two piece sets individually, and among the selection are bathing shorts!! Very cool for covering the upper thighs...but no tops with little sleeves (maybe one of you seamstresses can come up with a bari-suit?? <g>). What ideas do you other longer term posties (without the magic of plastic surgery) have to show off, without showing it all off? I'm leaving for Aruba in a month so any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. -Kim open RNY 7/17/01 -152    — KimBo36 (posted on March 24, 2003)

JC Penney's has a great selection of swimwear, including the little shorts. There are some very nice sheer coverups for swimwear as well.

Hi Kim. A couple of thoughts here.....Newport News has a "build your own bathing suit" section that includes a "peasant style" top -- little cap sleeves and a tied, gathered neckline. But it is a bathing suit top and only comes to the bottom of your bustline. So if you want to hide your arms but show your abs, it would work. My other thought is........you're going to be in Aruba. Do you know a lot of folks in Aruba? If not, just enjoy yourself and wear whatever you want! You've lost the equivalent of a whole person! Be proud! Wear a 2 piece if you want! I was on the beach at Myrtle Beach last summer and there were 2 sisters who I know easily had to go 350 pounds each and they were wearing bikinis. I struck up a conversation with them and told them that I'd had bypass surgery, etc. I also told them that I wouldn't have the nerve to wear a 2 piece in public (I didn't say it in a mean way - I rather admired their nerve.) Their response was that they paid a lot of money for their weeklong vacation at the beach. They didn't know any of these people and would probably never see any of them again. They were going to wear what they wanted and the rest of the world be damned. I'm not saying I agree with their attitude but they did have a point. Anyway, take a day and a close, trusted friend and go try on all kinds of swimsuits. You may find yourself pleasantly surprised by the responses you get. Have a great time in Aruba! Good luck.

Junonia is a company that sells clothing, mainly workout wear, for plus size women. They have a one-piece aquatard that includes bike short-length legs. It's sleeveless, unfortunately, but at least would cover the thighs. It's at http://www.junonia.com/cgi-bin/sgin0102.exe?SRCCODE=&FNM=00&T1=101440+BLACK+0X&UID=2003032514405267&UREQA=1&UREQB=7

Congrats on your loss! I don't know about what to wear on top, but I have a fabulous pair of "board shorts". They're swim trunks for ladies. I bought mine at Target & love them!

Kimblery, Hi there thought I would pop on in and post on the bathing suit issue, I was thinking the same thing, I've been surfing on the internet to see what I can come up with, In regards to disguising my ( not so good looking body parts) upper thighes, loose tummy skin , and what what-nots..... I have have also thought of a 2 peice suit, sort of like a hankercheif top with a bustier, and biker shorts, that have allot of compression to hold the tummy and thighs into place... (Those are my problem children) The arms, I have no problem with them, there's a little jello on it but liveable, the thighs and loose tummy definetly need the added support, If you have the extra money to spurlg, I would surf the internet find a style that you like, and get with a bathing suit company in town, That's what my plans are for this summer, it runs about the same amount I think the last suit I had made was about $50.00, but well worth it. It'll help accent your good parts and desguise the parts we don't like.. Good Luck Post op 10 months down 127 pounds

Unfortunately, the little shorts usually go only about 1-2 inches below the crotch and don't do anything to hide flabby/saggy inner thighs or saddlebags.....and if you can cram the skin up under the shorts, as you walk around it will find it's way down and out of the shorts! Personally, I use a long or short pareo.....it's basically a very sheer or mesh wrap-type skirt....they sell them cheap at Walmart and Meijers. I saw the two piece suits with match mesh shorts at Walmart last week. These shorts are roomy and made to go over a regular one or two-piece suite and are long enough to hide problem areas on the thighs. Good luck!

This is so hard, isn't it? In some ways, I'm more embarrassed about my 230 pound body than I was of my 372 pound body. I wore a bathing suit then though, and damn it -- I'm going to do it now.. so.. I have a few pareos.. to tie around my waist.. and I'll keep it on most of the time, except when I'm in the water.. other than that.. I'm keeping my arms down.. *grin* If I swim, no one better be looking. Its hard. Good luck.. use shorts, sarongs.. etc.. and remember -- no one really IS going to look at you anymore.. you're rather normal now. *grin*

Check out the Land's End Catalog. The shorts that go with their bathing suits don't look TOO short, although I haven't gotten them yet. If anyone has tried them, are they worth ordering?
