Question:
Please Answer this question....

I eat 3 small meals a day. I am 6 months out Started at 347.. I am now at 265. (Yes a slow loser)Anyway.. Since my meals are small, but may contain 50-100 carbs a day.. Is that bad? I do not snack, and it does not lead me to crave.. On the weekend I may snack on PoP Corn..    — Lucy B. (posted on April 28, 2002)

You need to limit your carbs. They should only be 20% of your total calorie intake. How much protien do you eat If you eat 80gms of protien a day your max carb intake should be 16gms. Good Luck

I am 9 months out and just started to lose with a little more "speed" ... I had slowed down to a crawl. And I'll tell you, I eat 1500 calories a day with a healthy balance of carbs and protein. My fat intake is small - usually only about 20%. My protein is usually 40-50% - and the rest carbs. Works for me. I'm down 94 pounds, 43 to go. Best of luck to you. Open RNY 7/17/02.

I'm going to express my viewpoint, which is unpopular with some on this board, but works for me. I am 13.5 months post-op. I have lost 177 lbs. so far. My doctor was one of those "eat what you can tolerate" types. He didn't give me any specific instructions to avoid carbs, so I haven't entirely avoided them. I focus on protein first, but have a few bites of rice, potatoes or pasta with some meals. Now that I'm 13.5 months out, I usually have a scrambled egg for breakfast, a Lean Cuisine for lunch and 4 oz. of protein with 1/2 c. carbs for dinner. This works for me, and the fact that I am still losing rapidly after all this time means carbs CANNOT be pure evil! I actually think carbs are the fire by which fat burns. If you aren't fueling your body with enough sugar, you won't have the energy to workout daily, etc. which will help you burn fat. Of course I don't pig out on chocolate bars or anything, but I definitely do not avoid complex carbs like vegetables, fruit and pasta/rice/crackers/popcorn, etc. Just eat them in moderation!!!
