Question:
I am confused on exactly what distal is. I had 150 cm bypassed so does

that make me distal? If distal is determined by the length of the common channel, then how long is the common channel with 150 cm bypassed? In other words, how long is the small intestine? See I AM confused........    — Marilyn C. (posted on July 19, 2002)

Well, it depends on who you talk to, but generally 150 cm is either a long proxy or a medial, and over that is usually a distal. My doctor said there's no such thing as a medial, it's either proximal or distal, but we hear it on here all the time. So, like I said, it depends on who you talk to. :)

Hi there. I had 150 cm bypassed and my Dr. called it a Long-limbed bypass. It is a FAR cry from being distal!!
