Question:
Two weeks post op, and have been feeling very sick to my stomach and thirsty.

I had my surgery two weeks ago (6/16) and have found myself yesterday and today sick at the sight and smell of food. I also have found myself very thirsty. I have been sucking on SF popsicles. As water and SF drinks are tasting rather crappy. Iced tea is out, as I drank one in Japan that made me rather sick, and it brings back memories just smelling the stuff. Any ideas on non sugary drinks you guys have tried..... Thanks for all the help and input!!!    — K D S. (posted on July 2, 2003)

Peppermint tea saved me in the first few weeks. It's all I could get down sometimes. Get the real stuff made w/ peppermint leaves. It settles your stomach.

Have you tried Propel Flavored water?

My favorite is Propel peach flavor. How about sugar free Kool Aide?

Linda is right! Peppermint tea is the best! I use Celestial Seasonings, add a packet or 2 of Splenda. The trick with herbal teas is: when using a large mug use 2 teabags, not just one. Steep the tea a good 5 minutes or longer to get the full flavor. Splenda is the best, other sugar substitutes make my pouchy more grouchy. I had lap gallbladder removal 2 days ago...I had 3 or 4 cups of peppermint tea when I got home that day and that night. It's heaven for your tummy, I swear! And peppermint is known to ease nausea. Hang in there! It will get better. - Anna LAP RNY 7/3/02 -130lbs.

Nausea is a vicious cycle...the less you eat the worse you feel! Please try to eat a little something, even if you don't want it, and you will find the nausea will get better.

I was the same way! I could not drink the Propell, Chrystal lite was too sweet. My taste buds were really off, but the one thing I was able to tolerate wuite well was water with LOTS of ice and a slice of lemon.

I am in a very similar situation. I am 20 days post op, and the only thing I have found that I like to drink is Propel. If it is too sweet, add a little water to it.

Hi my husband had his RNY May 8th and had trouble finding something he liked to drink. Well his favorite is from Vons it's a new drink called The Healthy Soft Drink-No Calories and No Carbs. He loves the Orange-Mango. It has Aloe Vera Juice in it. It's about 1.05 a bottle 20 oz. Also Diet Snapple Apple from Ralphs Grocery. I hope this helps. Rhonda

We have a product called Fruit 2.0. It is great. It comes in a regular and a vitamin enhanced. Sam's Club and Walgreen's carry them Sam's is cheaper. Walgreen's has their own two kinds and they are not as sweet.
