Question:
HAS ANYONE FOUND ANY BOOKS FOR POST-GASTRIC BYPASS PREGNANCY

I just found out I am 5 1/2 weeks pregnant. I haven't been pregnant in over 13 years, but this is my first pregnancy after surgery. I was just wondering if there are any books out there for us??? Or if anyone has any advise regarding nutrition, morning sickness,etc... Thanks :)    — Tammy O. (posted on May 3, 2005)

I'm six months pregnant,(and I haven't been pregnant for 13 years either! lol) and i haven't been able to find any books specifically on this either. WLS in general is only just recently becoming so widespread and getting more published on it, and i guess post-op pregnancy will be the next thing. I hope! Anyway, most of us are sent to a nutritionist immediately upon finding out we're pregnant. Just to ensure that the baby gets adequate nutrition and supplementation. For starters, I was put back on 80-100 oz. of fluid and 80 grams or more of protein/day. Both of which are the most important. Also taking a DHA supplement and a calcium supplement. Anyway--get in and talk to one asap. The early stages of pregnancy are vital. And once you're armed with a game plan, you'll feel more at ease! :) Feel free to contact me anytime, and visit our post-op pregnancy forum, too!

I don't think there is much out there. Hopefully you will find an OB/GYN who has had experience with gastric bypass patients. When your pregnant the baby takes all of its nutrition from you. Baby's are usually fine for patients who have had GB it's just getting in enough nutrition for not only baby but yourself.

Congrats Tammy!! I'm having my baby in 7 more weeks and I have had a text book pregnancy! I was just over 1.5 years post op when we became pregnant, and it has been very normal and easy for me. I have gained 23 pounds and I am about to start my 33rd week, they say I will gain another pound a week until I deliver, and that will put me at a 30 pound weight gain all together. The target weight gain is supposed to be between 25-35 pounds, so it seems I am right on target. I just can not wait to fit back into my size 8's and 10's again!! Wish me luck
