Question:
What is the oldest age you can be to get this surgery done?

My mother was wondering what is the oldest age you can get this surgery. She needs hip replacement but needs to lose weight first. She is also a diabetic. Thanks for your reply    — Lori G. (posted on January 11, 2000)

I don't know if this helps or not, but I am age 59 and will be having an open RNY on January 27th. Hopefully some older folks will write in.

I will be having open RNY on March 15, 2000, and I am 59 1/2 years old. It is my understanding that 60 is about the oldest age my surgery will consider. I will be 60 in July 2000.

After posting, I noticed that I said 60 was the oldest age my "surgery" will consider. I intended to say "surgeon." Don't want to mislead anyone thinking there was an age limit for a certain of surgery. Thanks.
