Question:
Normal exercise how soon after a lap?

After a lap, how soon can I enjoy "normal" exercise? Also, how will a lap affect my energy level at the begining? Will I be restricted to certain types of exercise? How soon will I comfortably be able to ride a bike? Thanks    — [Anonymous] (posted on March 30, 2000)

I had my Lap RNY done October of 1999. It took me about 3 months before I could go back to the gym. What took me so long was not any pain from the surgery, but general fatigue. After I had worked, run errors, took care of the house/cat/fish etc. I just would poop out. But, as is said often - everyone is different.

I had a lap BPD-DS on 1-6-00 and went to join the gym about 5 weeks later. I went for 2 days and had to take a week off!!!!! But since that rude awakening, I have been able to go to the gym 5 days a week consistently and I tolerate the experience well. I walk on the treadmill for the aerobic exercise and I also do the resistence/strength training. I was told to take it easy with the abdominal exercises for the first 2 months post op, but also, to do all the workout as best as I could, not to be in any kind of pain (which is different from hard work) and to modify anything. Exercise is the kay to good health and to augment our surgical weight loss. Get moving and good luck!!!! I go to the gym because I feel like God has given me that second chance at life. I plan to put my money where my mouth is (since more food is out of the question anymore!) and exercise more, eat healthy and learn from my past mistakes!
