Question:
I have a post-op friends who had her surgery on dec 21 of 2001 and she
plans on getting pregnant sometime in late fall, I told her that I didn't think that it would be good for her to risk it on herself or a baby, she says she knows she will have to take more vitamins and be extra careful with the nutrition, but I am wondering isn't only 10 moths post op too soon to become pregnant? Hi, YES 10 months out is way too soon!!! Most of the surgeons reccomend at
least 18 months out, this gives your body time to heal and time for all of
your weight to come off. Please to the library section and look under

While I concur with the prior post-er, and I plan to wait at least 2 years
to have my first baby (ever) after surgery, there are many people on this
site, and on other support sites that have had healthy babies soon after
surgery. Since many previously infertile people become so fertile after
surgery, this is not that uncommon. Your friend needs to consult a
nutritionist/dietician who is familiar with WLS and neonatal dietary
requirements. She will need to get frequent ultrasounds to make sure the
baby is growing. She will need to REALLY becareful to balance what she
needs to eat for the baby's sake, and making sure portions are small so she
doesn't stretch the pouch and cause her surgery to fail this soon.

I agree w/ the others who have posted answers. 10 months after surgery is
too soon. My surgeon told me that I should wait 2 years before considering
having children.

I agree with you and the others. She needs to wait longer. My son was
conceived thru IVF/ISCI nad although WLS might help my fertility (ovulation
- but I have other factors too) I waited until I was sure I wasn't going to
try for sibling to have my WLS. It's just to risky for a growing fetus.
