I am going to get my VBG done by Dr. Walid Abawi in Bowmanville, ON... you
need a doctors referral to se him and OHIP does cover it.

Your profile is empty so I don't know what type of surgery you are looking
for. The ones available here are RNY open or lap depending on the
surgeon-covered by OHIP, adjustable band (lap band)-cost is $15,000 not
covered by OHIP, open VBG-kind of outdated but some surgeons do it-covered
by OHIP. That's it. If you are in bad shape health wise, super morbidly
obese + at least 3 co-morbidities and cannot wait the 3+years for surgery
here, OHIP may approve you for out of country wls. You would have to
discuss this with your family doc. You do need a referral to a gastric
bypass surgeon in Ontario.
I live in Ontario and had my open RNY in Guelph with Dr.Parekh. There are
a few surgeons in Ont but it's so hard to get a consult. I suggest you
join the ossg-Torontoarea group at yahoo groups for tons of info. The
members of the site have all the surgeons covered and many have had their
surgery in the US. So any questions you have could be answered there. The

Go to find a Dr at the top of the page, click international and then Canada
for a listing of Dr. plus a listing of surgery types.I saw Dr. Joffee in
Toronto for a lapband . He works with Dr. Yau and they both do a variety of
weight loss surgeries. Good Luck!
