Question:
Was your gallbladder removed during LAP Gastric Bypass?

I am trying to find out how they remove the gallbladder during LAP Gastric Bypass. Could anyone shed some light on this subject?    — Skyedancer4u1 (posted on February 5, 2002)

Lap RNY on 11/02/01 and yes, my surgeon removed my gall bladder as well. He just made another slit where the gall bladder was, and from what I understand in layman's terms, they make the slit, suck it out w/a vacuum-type instrument, snip it off and there you have it (or don't have it.) No extra pain involved and now I can eat things I couldn't touch pre-op, like chili, salsa, etc. spicy stuff. It's pretty cool.

I haven't had my WLS surgery yet but I did have my gallbladder out last year. It was done Lap as well. It is no problem at all for them to take your gallbladder while they do the surgery. I did really well when I had mine out. I hope do to as well with WLS surgery. I hope this helps.

I had an open rny and my surgeon removed my gallbaldder when he did the rny. Preop, I had requested that he do that and he said he couldn't remove a healthy gallbladder. I whined a lot and complained that I wanted it done to avoid another surgery down the road. He said no can do, kiddo. Well...when I came out of anesthesia he told me I'd "lucked out" he took my gallbladder out because he felt s few stones in it, which allowed him to remove it. I was very happy...with the high incidence of gallbladder problems post wls, it only makes sense to do it all at the same time.
