Question:
what is the formula for getting a good fitting bra?
I could not find in the library on how to measure to get a perfect bra fit. Since my surgery I need new ones, and I wanted to find out about what size I need before trying on a dozen or two. Thanks alot — sandy W. (posted on August 26, 2002)

Perfect fit?? IS there such a thing?? I have saggy baggy boobs and bras are
not made to fit these things. My suggestion to you is to go to a lingrie
(sp??) specialty shop and get them to measure you. SOME upscale department
store's should be able to help you too.

If you visit your local Lane Bryant store they will size you up for free :)
even if you don't buy any of they bras. It was a little embarassing at
first but the sales lady stands at your back and measures you then goes out
on the floor and bring back 6-8 different syles of bras and helps you to
find out which is most comfortable & supportive to your liking. Best
thing I ever did for myself before surgery :) (3/5/02 -80 pounds)

Okay, I learned this from my grandma, who is a seamstress. In order to get
the right bra size, you measure around your chest, above your breasts, but
under your arms (make sense?). Let's say your measurement here is
36". That is your bra size. To find out your "cup size"
measure around the fullest part of your breasts. If you are 38", you
are an "A"; if you are 40", you are a "B"; if you
are 42", you are a "C" ... and it goes up one size per
2" from there. If you are between sizes, you should probably make it
a habit to always try on bras before buying them. Good luck!

I saw a talk show on TV dedicated to this very subject! (believe it or
not!)<p>What the experts on this show said was to measure your chest
just under your breasts first so that the measuring tape is snug, not loose
or tight. The number you get here is the first part of your bra size.
Then, raise the measuring tape a couple of inches and measure yourself
around at the fullest area across your breasts. Now subtract the number
you get here from the first number you got and for each number over, add
one cup size.<p>So if you start off with the first measurement of 44
and your second measurement is 48, your bra size would be 44D. Hope this

I was wondering what you do if the "fullest" part of your breast
isn't a few inches above the first measurement but a few inches below? *G*

I went and got measured at Victoria's secret. Just be sure not to wear
anything too bulky cuz they measure over your clothes. One trick I learned
to set thing where they should be is to put on your bra while leaning
forward. Settle your boobs in the cups and then fasten the back. A couple
of wiggles to adjust and voila! :)

I would suggest a foundations shop. They are incredible, all about bras
and how they fit. I go to them as a pre-op because they have larger sizes,
and they modify bras, so if you need some extra room in the straps, not a
problem they add it on (better yet it is free!). Plus if you need to be
meausred it is a good place to go, I thought I would feel really funny
about it, but they have dressing rooms and it is all very private. Good
