Question:
Has anyone traveled alone for surgery?

I am traveling to Lousiana in December to have surgery. I am considering traveling alone. Dr. Hargroder arranges for transportation to and from the airport, including accomodations. Due to financial reasons, I am considering going this journey alone? Has anyone done this alone?    — Lisa B. (posted on August 26, 2002)

Lisa, I travelled alone to Lousiana for surgery with Dr Hargroder. I would have liked to have my husband with me but he needed to stay home with our kids. I was totaly fine. I felt a little lonely, but you are with a group of other wls patients that you spend alot of time with and you really do become friends with them. There were five people in my group and two of us were traveling alone. The Compass program is great. They are so organized and caring. The coordinator Cindy will visit with you everyday. Definately bring a calling card so that you can call your family and friends when you get bored or lonely. If you have more questions feel free to email me. [email protected]. Good luck!

Lisa I flew to Seattle, Washington to have surgery last Feb. I went alone. I did have a friend pick me up at the airport and allow me to stay in her home.. She drove me to all appt, and the hospital , etc.. I was very fortunate to have such a friend, and one of the best docs in the country. Take care.. and best of luck to you. Hugs,

I traveled just 1 hour away from my home to have surgery, but needed a family member to bring me home. I couldn't imagine going to another state alone! You really sould bring someone along. I know it's pricey, but it's something you'll need. Do you have children or friends who are in college? Air Tran has something called an X-fair. It's for college student under 25. They can fly standby for only $50 each way. I know Air Tran flies to New Orleans, but not sure where you live. I've done it before and never have a problem getting on a flight the day I want to leave. Good Luck.

Yes, I traveled by myself for surgery with the compass program in Lubbock, TX. Your time is going to be very well occupied while you are there with the others having this surgery(consults, testing, etc.) so you're not going to be hanging around all by your lonesome, being bored. They really do a great job taking care of you.

Lisa, Compass will also help if you wish for a companion to travel with you. My DH was going to go with me to Lubbock(another Compass location), but he will stay here with my son. So, I am going alone too. However, I have already made some friends who will be there at the same time. You may wish to try to find someone else who will be there too!<br>Best wishes on your surgery! Mine is in 2 weeks!!!!
