When does the energy come back??!!

I am about 3 weeks post op Open Rny. I have NO engery. I try to walk as much as I can. I take my vitamins, but still feel so so so weak. When does the energy come back? Anything I can do to quicken the process??    — J. W. (posted on November 11, 2002)

I remember that feeling oh so well. I didn't have any energy until I was about 5 or 6 weeks out. I know it is frustrating but hang in there. Your body just went through major surgery and it needs a little extra time to heal and adjust. You will feel better soon. Good Luck!!

lol! I'm 18 months out and still feel like something the cat dragged in. If you find the secret to getting some energy let me know. I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired. (Well tired that is). ;)

Are you getting all your protein in? Are you taking your multi-vitamins? You might try taking a vitamin B complex.

I was really tired at 3 weeks post op too. But at 1 month, they tested my blood and found that I was low on iron (a common side effect of gastric bypass surgery). About 2 days after starting my iron pills I felt 200% better and haven't slowed down since! Make sure you have blood tests drawn at 1 month post op! Good luck!

Are you taking a b-12 vit sublinqual at least once a week (1000 mcq). If it wasnt recommended by your MD, ask! I have not had a lack of energy nor been sick one day since surgery 7.5 months ago!

I am now 8 weeks post op. I have noticed in the last week, I have a bit more energy, yet, still no where near "normal". Then,I think I really do feel more energetic than I did in the last 2 months pre op, I was so sick! I am taking a prenatal vitamin, and a sublingual B12. In many ways I feel better than pre op, I just htought I should have more energy to do more. Need to get up off my butt and walk more too.

Took me a good 4-5 weeks to feel better and regain energy. There was a direct correlation between eating solid food and getting in enough protein and feeling more energetic. Vitamins help too and so does your exercise. You'll get there in time.

take more sublingual b-12. i was feeling tired and my doc said to increase it to 3 times a week. you cant overdose. the excess is excreted as waste in our bodies. it helps.
