Question:
Can I buy an insurance policy that will cover the surgery in Michigan?
My insurance company will not cover Bariatric surgery. I need to find one since I cannot afford to pay for it myself — Martha W. (posted on February 14, 2003)

I don't know where you work, but BCBS of Michigan or Messa BCBS is great
for covering these types of things. Good Luck to you. Check out MSO.com Dr.
Sapala's website. I believe you might find some phone #'s that could help
you greatly.

I bought an individual policy with Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan. I
have the Blue Preferred Blue Plus PPO. My surgery was approved in 4 weeks
and was deemed "medically necessary". I did have to wait 6
months before breaching the subject with BC/BS as my obesity was considered
a pre-existing condition. (Lap RNY 1-30-03 -20lbs)
