Question:
Eating at one year post op. repost by amos mod

Theres a tech glitch that takes this members question back to that perennial favorite blood pressure question thats a system problem so I am posting this for the member
I feel I can eat alot for one year post op...
I am one year post op (open rny). I have noticed within the last month or so I can really eat a lot. Here are a few examples of items I have eaten (not together of course!): almost a whole burrito from Taco Bell (minus a few bites of tortilla), 3 homestyle chicken strips from Wendy's, a slice of cheese pizza from Sbarro's (minus the end crust), a cup and a half of Mu Shu Chicken (chinese), a WHOLE bagel from Dunkin' Donuts (this one REALLY scared me!). I do not eat these items on a regular basis, I am just giving examples of items most people will be able to visualize. I do not get that "full" felling like I had been. I am wondering if this is too much or normal for this far out? I believe I was transected, but I am not 100% sure. I was a self pay for the surgery (I have insurance, but it would not cover it) so any follow up testing will also be self pay. I just wanted some opinions...thank you! To answer the poster some days I can eat way more than others, for no apparent reason

Hi Keri, I am almost a year and a half out. I was just at my surgeons office today and his nurse said that I should stay at about 1/2 cup of food 3 times a day adn if I want a snack, to have a protein drink or some string cheese or something like that. I know, for me, there are days I feel like I can eat everything in sight and there are others where I can hardly eat anything. I think that about this time in our journeys, its more up to us now. Good luck to you!!! Desiree 312/185-182/130

Hi Keri, I am now 16 mths post op, and on some days I can eat that much too, and then some days not! So I think that every day just varies for me, but I believe you are fine, I am still loosing, thankgod, since I was stuck for 2 mths without losing, but then I just tried to cut down on my calories on some days and it worked, so try that, and I know that I have to try not to eat like that all of the time, and make better food choices too, but some of the food choices on there that you mentioned are not bad at all, so good luck to you, you'll be okay hang in there! Like I said everyone has different days!

I am 15 months post-op at 135 pounds and 5'7", and often eat as much as you described. I have a 3 pound weight range that I manage to stay in. Only when I majorly cheat for more than a day, ie. on a vacation, do I get to the top of that range. The thought of going past that # puts me right back on track. I do though, go to the gym 3x a week and try to stay in a reasonable amount of calories per day. As the others have said, some days my appetite and abilty to hold food is different than others.

Yes, I can eat that much. The mature pouch is about 9 to 12 oz if I remember the pouch rules correctly? It's bigger than I thought anyway. Sometimes my dh says "I can't believe you ate that much!" and then other times, like others said, I can't eat as much. You sound normal to me though.

Hi...I am two and a half years post rny and two years post TT, and I have to agree with Bob Haller on this one. Some days I can eat what I perceive to be a lot of food and some days, it's all I can do to get down a little cup o'soup. Those days that I can "eat", my best friend at work will laugh and tell me how proud he is of me for "eating all gone like a big girl" (LOL) He's only known me post RNY, so he has no idea that in my heyday I could eat him under the table, but that's for another day. I find that when I am more active that my appetite and capacity will increase...when I am lazy and sedentary, my appetite and capacity decreases. I have been maintaining for more than two years at 117-125 (depending on dear old "Aunt Flo"), and I finally feel like myself and my body are living harmoniously. Good luck and have a Sparkling Day!! ~CAE~
