Question:
I am post opp 18 mos and I notice that I have not lost weight in 6 months.

What can I do to get back on track. I am able to eat more and I did the cottage cheese test and ate 4 oz. Please give me information as to how I can get back on track. Thank you Peggy H.    — Peggy H. (posted on November 30, 2004)

Peggy, how many more #s do you want to loose? I am at 18 months and have stopped loosing because my plastic surgeon says there isn't much more fat on me. So you may not have anymore on you if you are close to goal. By the way 4 oz of cottage cheese is not a lot, that is 1/2 cup and that is all most po RNY patients should eat at one time.

The previous poster is correct. I am 21 months post op and I stopped losing 15 pounds below goal at about eight months out. Recently, I have been sick from an ulcer and started losing again and dropped ten more pounds that i cannot afford to lose and did not try to lose. Now that the ulcer is well, I still am not gaining any weight back.

I am almost 18 mos out and haven't lost much in the last 6 mos either. I have been upping my exercise. It's not helping in the loss but it's helping in the maintaining. I would like to lose another 50. Short of drinking only protein drinks, I don't know what else I can change at this point.

I was in the same boat. No weight loss from 12- 18 months out. I joined Weight Watchers. I am not making healthier food choices and exercising more. It is doing me lots of good because I have already lost 8.4 pounds in 2 weeks. I have about 50 more to go to be at ideal weight for WW. I think 30 more and then reconstructive surgery. I still know there is fat on me, not just skin.

Peggy, you are 18 mo post op and your profile has no info in it! That makes it difficult for those of us trying to help to go back and see how you have tracked over the past 18 months, what you weigh now and what your goal was, what you are eating, how much or often you are exercising, etc, etc., all of which factor into a response. Have you gained or just not lost anything? Of course you can eat more and that is normal. You will note that several times over the course of the first few years, you can eat more. That is supposed to happen, the fact that you can only eat 4 oz of cottage cheese tells me that your pouch is intact and fine. A few general guidelines since I don't have specifics to work from. If you have not lost anything or gained in 6 months then you must be taking in the right amount of calories to sustain your current weight. To start losing you have to cut calories and increase the exercise. Change up your exercise routine, and eat frequently-small good protein meals. Increase the water, get rid of the junk...its not rocket science, only work at this point. Oh, for the good old days of weight loss with no effort! I'm almost 3 years post-op and ever since about 2 years post-op it has been work to maintain.
