Question:
Is geocities a dependable place to place a website?
I've noticed that several of my peers have elaborate and extensive webpages detailing their WLS journey. I was wondering is this one of the more dependable places to place a website. I am fearful of creating an extensive journal and have all of the information lost. Any suggestions from my WLS siblings is greatly appreciated as I value the opinions that are given. — Judy S. I've had no problems with Geocities. You can keep your HTML code on your
PC and upload the pages to your site...JR

I've had websites on geocities (now yahoo) for years and never had a
problem. But, you can't use that site to upload pics that you want to have
show up here on your profile on AMOS; geocities blocks them from showing up
here (as do numbers of other sites that don't want cross-hits off their
server without you actually going there to see their ads). Speaking of ads
... on geocities, you'll have a pop-up ad on your journal, unless you
purchase a "higher level" of web page.<P>No matter where
you create a journal, I strongly suggest you back it up each and every time
you update. To do so, I recommend right-clicking on "Select
All", and then "Copy," and then copying the entire journal
(every time!) into a Notebook document (under Windows accessories), saved
under a particular name you can find later. That has saved me much
aggravation when I have trouble uploading updates, or when they disappear
for reasons unknown.

I use tripod (which is a service of lycos.com) and haven't had any problems
yet (I'm at http://steverevere.tripod.com). Of course, as with geocities,
to avoid ads, you need to purchase an upgrade. But, with tripod, it
appears that there are no pop-up ads, just small ones on some of your pages
in either a header or footer setting. Regardless of the free service you
use, it is a helpful exercise to track how you ended up needing WLS and
what you're doing to maintain your health. Good luck.

I have used Tripod and Homestead. I have alot of pages on Homestead and
have for several years and never had a problem. I like their design tools
better too.
