Question:
During the night I experienced severe pain under my right rib cage that radiated to m

y back. Also nauseau, sweating and shaking. The last three sound like dumping, but what about the pain? I am 5 weeks post op and the surgeon's nurse doesn't think that it would be gallbladder this soon. I did have macaroni for dinner (perfectly legal at this stage according to my surgeon's plan), but thought that it had gone down fine. Anybody have any similar experience or input for me? P.S. Walking around seemed to relieve some of the pain for a while.    — sherry H. (posted on February 12, 2003)

I say gallbladder. Although I do not know what dumping feels like. That is exactly how my gallbladder pain was! Good Luck!

I had the same thing yesterday, and it was the passing of a kidney stone. I called my surgeon's office, and was told it is a calcium deficiency (getting the right kind of calcium). It was the most excruciating pain, but being up right helped a lot. It left a couple hours later after the stone had passed. I hope this helps.

I had to have my gall bladder taken out 12/16/02 @10 months post op. Your symptoms are the same symptoms i was having.

it sounds more like pancreatitis, which frequently accompanies cholecystitis (gall bladder disease). the pain radiating to the BACK is what makes it sound like pancreatitis, actually, since cholecystitis normally doesn't radiate in that pattern. this really is something you should speak about with your doctor. pancreatitis is a known possible complication of abdominal surgery, and it's not a trifling matter. you should be seen and evaluated by your doctor, or emergency room. best to you.

I had a similar pain at about 2 weeks post-op except it was on my left side. My PA said it was muscle pain from being poked and prodded and moved around. It went away after about 2 more weeks.
