Are you having lap surgery or open? I had lap and it was e requirement to do a low fat 1000 calorie a day diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery. It helps shrink the fat from your liver and give the surgeon a clearer view of your insides. I lost 11 pounds and the doc said i made his job very easy. My surgery only took 1 hour and 10 minutes! Good Luck!

I never was put on a special diet before surgery. I was told to not eat after 8pm the night before surgery. I went out and enjoyed myself and had many last suppers! Just enjoy yourself!

My Dr required only liquids one week prior to surgery. But, I did read in a book (maybe Dr. Flancbaum) that the week prior to your surgery: Day 1-2 protein supp. and light breakfast, light lunch and dinner and protein supp for evening snack. Days 3-5 protein supp for breakfast, light lunch protein supp for snack and salad and protein supp for dinner. Day 6-7 4 protein supps. Not sure if that is what you are looking for or not, I just happened to read it this morning. Also take your vitamins, 2 chewable flintstone completes, caltrate plus D, and B-12. Not everyone does anything prior to surgery, but it never hurts to get prepared. (my Dr. has us on liquids prior to surgery to 1. prepare yourself for after surgery and 2. to give the intestinal track an easy week. Good luck!

My surgeon required high protein and veggies and limit to 3 meals. I was surprised because I found that the protein stuck with me and consequently sticking to no more than 3 meals was no problem. I also lost 14 lbs which didn't hurt either. He requires this diet because it helps to shrink the liver. You need to talk to your surgeon though, as they all have their own ideas.
