Question:
I HAD MY SCOPE YESTERDAY BECAUSE I WAS NAUSEOUS

AFTER EATING. ANYWAY THE DR DIDN'T FIND ANY OBSTRUCTIONS OR DIDN'T HAVE TO DIALATE ANYTHING. HE DID PUT ME ON NEXIUM AND SAID IF AFTER A MONTH IF THE NAUSEA GOES AWAY AND COMES BACK AFTER GOING OFF NEXIUM I COULD HAVE AN ULCER. I HAVE 3 QUESTIONS. THE FIRST I THOUGHT THE DR SAID THE ULCER WOULD BE IN THE PART OF MY STOMACH I DIDN'T USE (NOT MY POUCH) DID I HEAR HIM RIGHT?? AND IF I DID, HOW COULD HAVING AN ULCER THERE MAKE ME NAUSEOUS? SECOND HE SAID MY STOMA WAS RATHER SMALL. THIS IS GOOD RIGHT? MY THIRD QUESTION IS HE SAID MY POUCH IS STILL ABOUT 2 OZ. I'M 6 MONTHS OUT. IF IT HASN'T STRETCHED BY NOW, CAN I ASSUME IF I CONTINUE WITH THE SAME EATING HABITS MY POUCH WON'T STRETCH AT ALL? THANKS FOR LISTENING (AND ANSWERING)    — sandy V. (posted on August 27, 2003)

Can't answer the ulcer part of your post, as I am recovering from one myself-that Nexium is good stuff, but i never had nausea as a symptom, just pain. However if he did a scope and did not find an ulcer, it may be in parts that he could not see. Having a small stoma is good, definitely but only if it is not too small. Too small means food gets backed up (which could cause nausea), has to be super chewed, and could result in a stricture. 2 oz is good for 6 months but by a year out it is supposed to stretch to an average 6-8 mo. I would think that eventually you will eat more per meal the further out you get and at that time it would stretch, which is normal.

Look up under the LIBRARY for "ulcer" and you should be able to find other info that might be helpfuwith this question. Hope this helps!! Becky M.
